CanSkate Fall 2020 (Monday)

This Skate Canada flagship Learn-to-skate program is specially designed for all ages to develop a variety of skating skills. The CanSkate program focuses on fun, participattion and basic skill development. It is beneficial to any skater with an interest in ice sports (figure skating, hockey, ringette). Skaters are grouped according to ability and taught by NCCP certified professional Skate Canada coaches assisted by qualified Program Assistants. Skaters develop forward and backward skating skills, stopping, turning, jumping, edges and crosscuts. Badges are awarded when all skills have been achieved. Coaches make the sessions active using teaching aids, music and a variety of theme and fun days held throughout the season. Helmets are mandatory. Skate Canada and the Niagara-on-the-Lake Skating Club require that all CanSkate participants wear a CSA approved hockey helmet on all sessions.

One Parent/Guardians of CanSkate skaters must remain at the arena during lesson time for their children's safety and most of all your encouragement.

Program Description:

Parent Assisted CanSkate (Tuesday)

This Skate Canada learn-to-skate program is specially designed for beginners who are 3-5 years of age. 

Fun and continuous movement is the focus while learning basic skating skills such as balance, skating forwards, backwards, and stopping.  

Lessons are led by NCCP certified professional coaches and assisted by a parent/guardian (who will be registered with Skate Canada) on the ice.  This is new this year as with current mandates Coaches may not physically assist the skater. Progression to the CanSkate program is encouraged on the Coaches' recommendation. 

Helmets are mandatory for skater and parent/guardian. Skate Canada and the Niagara-on-the-Lake Skating Club recommend all Pre-CanSkate participants wear a CSA approved hockey helmet.

Program Description:

Parent Assisted CanSkate (Saturday)

This Skate Canada learn-to-skate program is specially designed for beginners who are 3-5 years of age.
